Yes, Google certainly has an incredible amount of power. However there are some good affiliates who are providing exceptional, high quality, authentic information out there, and Google needs that to supply the demand of relevant information to it’s readers – people seeking information online. Therefore, the question is IF and WHEN Google will decide to shut it down. and if they do, will we have any of our eggs in other baskets to be prepared for the need to diversify.

Today, in order to be a successful affiliate, you need to deliver quality content and market a relevant product that your visitors are likely to be interested in. By offering a great value proposition, you can still succeed with affiliate marketing, but it is no longer nearly as easy as it once was. Firstly, you need to publish enough quality, original and relevant content to earn the respect of your target audience while building up interest in your website, and secondly, you need to actually believe in the product that you are trying to sell. If you don’t have any interest or first-hand experience of knowledge in what you are trying to sell, it will inevitably be reflected in the quality of your website, and both your visitors and the search engines alike will not be impressed.

These websites promote products to their massive audience through the use of banners and contextual links. This method offers superior exposure and improves conversion rates, resulting in a top-notch revenue for both the seller and the affiliate.

As we can see from the very significant effects of Google’s major algorithm updates on the search results, the emphasis on quality over quantity and SEO is constantly being reinforced. Google’s Matt Cutts announced in 2012 that the search engine’s ultimate goal is to reward content that offers value by increasing its rank in the search engines. As a result, numerous affiliate websites went under in a matter of weeks after the major updates, but these websites were those that didn’t place enough emphasis on quality.
The advantages of the affiliate marketing business model for the affiliate are quite obvious to anyone. Having the opportunity to effectively ‘sell stock’ without having any of the costs or responsibilities of manufacturing, buying or storing it is very liberating. This has also to do with people who are lacking in patience and the ability to figure out a strategy and then stick with it. They will always think they can trick the system and get the results they seek faster. They will use black-hat SEO techniques and other shortcuts in an effort to avoid doing the work that is needed. Needless to say, this kind of things never work.
While your site is still new, it's a good idea to start capitalizing on someone else's audience. Continue focusing on building your own content, but also considering writing content for a few big, high-traffic blogs that are relevant for your niche. By writing content for a bigger site, you are able to get in front of another audience and showcase your expertise on a particular topic. This will eventually lead to more traffic to your site, as well. 
I absolutely see the value in affiliate sales (and Pay Flynn is one of the masters at doing this authentically and openly), but I got really turned off it when I saw a lot of bloggers I read and respect writing junky “How to set up a blog” posts that didn’t seem relevant to their audiences purely so that the could get the sweet Bluehost commissions in.

While affiliate marketers are generally able to join affiliate networks for free, merchants usually have to pay a fee to participate in the network. This new regulation should also remind you to follow FTC guidelines and clearly disclose that you receive affiliate commissions from your recommendations. 


The results were damning proof that affiliate networks are little more than a scam. Of all the traffic our affiliate network sent to us that had made a transaction, only 1.68 percent hadn’t been to our site before. This is more than 95 percent lower than our site average. Basically, of anyone coming to our site through an affiliate network, there was a 98 percent chance they had been to our site before.
But personally, I think its no longer worth the effort to work more and earn less with mounting problems facing this business model. As you grow older, you want to progress, not retreat. Since I've extensive SEO and marketing skills, I think starting my own store will be right option. That way I can choose my own percentage per product and lifetime cookies that don't require tracking. Of course it will present with different harder challenges, but in the end I will have a brand with returning customers and I could be truly my own boss.
