Amazon is an amazing platform to be an affiliate of. They provide much detail and reviews that people are looking for. The only problem is that the affiliates don’t always read the fine print. What I mean is, if you have no sales in a certain amount of time, they revoke your membership. Always read up on your contract, with any company, and know what to expect.
Based on what she said, I figured that Greg probably didn’t leave the company for an “Exciting new opportunity” at all. He was probably fired because they caught him stealing money out of the company’s bank account or something. And after he got busted he came up with a desperate scheme to drag as many clients as he could out of the company with him so he could take advantage of their trust to make some quick cash.

There are other reasons that people don’t become successful in affiliate marketing, like jumping from one project to the next every couple of months because they have a new idea, getting “shiny object syndrome” where they just keep buying new products and trying new techniques, never really settling on one and giving it a fair shot, and so much more. Any number of these things can cause failure, but know in your heart and mind that affiliate marketing is definitely NOT a scam, and that you can achieve it as long as you keep working hard, learning, and trying new things.
Varies from not at all to hugely important. Social is a great way to drive traffic in the early days before google shows you love. It is also a great way to connect with a reader on a different medium whether that be through pictures (instagram), short news updates (twitter), solving problems that users are facing (quora/reddit), or videos (youtube) Not all social media is going to be relevant to your audience, but you could leverage any social medium on it's own to drive major traffic and to connect with an audience you might not otherwise be able to sell to just by appearing in google. And let's be realistic, diversification of traffic is important - if you are relying on a single source, and it dries up, you don't get paid.
After 2008, it all went downhill. Merchants I was working with started to reduce commission and cookie duration. Some highly converting merchants even closed their programs. I now get 30% of what I used to get because of reduced commissions and cookie duration. There is not a single store that hasn't reduced commission and cookie duration. This is just merchant side, the other end "search engines" is another story. 2008 is the year search engines started targeting affiliates. Your website could be penalized just for having an affiliate link. A lot of my websites were targeted.

Banner ads are not mobile-friendly because of image size and are no longer effective. They have been all but replaced by Text Links: those little one-sentence ads in between paragraphs on your favorite news articles. Hey Celia! I don’t aim to maximize profits through this site. I do make small commissions (compared to a lot of what’s out there in this industry) for people that purchase legitimate training/tools that I recommend if it’s what they’re looking for. But I prefer to give my training away for free, as I’d rather help people in an industry flooded with crooks than maximize my profits – I have other websites I focus on for that purpose 🙂

Remember our food processor example? That food processor could probably be best used with a book of recipes, which also can be purchased at the same company’s website.
