Once you've protected your prospecting pool, maximize your affiliate program by working with the best and leaving the rest. As the old 80/20 adage implies, most of your revenue will come from a very small percentage of your affiliates. Because it can be time-consuming to manage a larger affiliate network, consider selecting only a few companies initially, and interview them before signing them on. Affiliates are an extension of your sales force and represent your online brand, so choose partners carefully.
Many people are just lying to you. Making money is not easy at all. Why should it be easy in online world? You are right. It’s different from a so called normal business. You just promote services/products and earn a commission. You don’t need to stock products, ship or return them. This is an easy part of affiliate marketing business. The rest is not easy. It takes effort and time.
Has anyone heard of Direct Marketing Strategies LLC, out of Arizona? and their domain savecashshopping.com They purport to list 30 big companies (Cosco, Sams club, Walmart home depot etc. and for a price will send like 30000 targeted visitors per month for one year for a cost of $2k. is this reasonable? this is a site they have set up. savesmartshopping.com
The most important part of affiliate marketing is not selling but helping your audience. By offering solutions you are building trust. People will buy from you only if they trust you. The more you try to sell the fewer sales you will make. If all you see at people is the chance to make $ then you are not going to achieve much. Anyone can offer their affiliate links and tell their visitors “click here” or “Buy Now”. But if that’s the only thing you want to do you are just sabotaging your own business.
There are definitely many low quality programs online in fact we reside in an industry where there are vultures everywhere you look. They are in the business of taking your money, nothing more. Many of these companies have to tell you that making money online is an instant process, it will happen overnight and they will usually tout success of a select few in their programs (the only ones actually making money) to sell their program.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Rufat. I have just started my journey in affiliate marketing and after reading your post, I feel very excited. There is so much potential in affiliate marketing and to me that business will never die as there are a lot of people out there looking for ways to earn passive income as well as there are a lot of businesses looking for websites or services to promote there products. Again, thanks for sharing and wish you all the best!
Below are 2 screenshots from affiliate programs. The first is sales from an 18 month old website, the other is another affiliate program although that is a split project between myself and 2 other people so cant say that is all mine. But it gives you a rough idea. Also note that I only spend around 20% of my time on affiliate marketing so with just a little time each week you can still smash it.
Affiliate marketing is commonly confused with referral marketing, as both forms of marketing use third parties to drive sales to the retailer. However, both are distinct forms of marketing and the main difference between them is that affiliate marketing relies purely on financial motivations to drive sales while referral marketing relies on trust and personal relationships to drive sales
Affiliates are most successful when the products they promote match the interests of their followers and subscribers. In addition, many successful affiliate marketers advise recommending and promoting only products that the affiliate is personally familiar with. That’s because familiarity with the product, program, or service helps build trust between the affiliate and end-user.
Hi Ted, Love your comments! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You are so on the same page as me with the changes in even the use of the TERM affiliate marketing. I have a post coming out next week about the difference between performance marketing and affiliate marketing. Do stay tuned. I would love your thoughts on that post once it’s live too. Best!
There are always going to be people and businesses that rely on scamming or misleading others. Wherever there is money to be made to do this, you can best bet there is going to be some unscrupulous people there to fill the void. There has never been more prominence of that than these days, I actually believe that the internet use to be a much safer place to seek out a way to “make money online” or to become an affiliate marketer than it is today.
Many voucher code web sites use a click-to-reveal format, which requires the web site user to click to reveal the voucher code. The action of clicking places the cookie on the website visitor's computer. In the United Kingdom, the IAB Affiliate Council under chair Matt Bailey announced regulations that stated that "Affiliates must not use a mechanism whereby users are encouraged to click to interact with content where it is unclear or confusing what the outcome will be."
Yada yada yada….for those o f us who know absolutely NOTHING about marketing, how to manually create a webpage/blog, understand terms like SEO and MANY others that you and others use….not to mention we have no real knowledge of what it takes to write a successful blog or the tools you need to make a good YouTube video (yes, you need a video camera and a GOOD microphone among other things to make a GOOD video); those of us who don’t know that it it
This has also to do with people who are lacking in patience and the ability to figure out a strategy and then stick with it. They will always think they can trick the system and get the results they seek faster. They will use black-hat SEO techniques and other shortcuts in an effort to avoid doing the work that is needed. Needless to say, this kind of things never work.
Because it’s been so good for me and the results have been amazing, I’ve stayed with them for 11 years and counting. Overall, what you’re looking at is a COMPLETE course on affiliate marketing here, as well as unsurpassed training quality and support as well as tools INCLUDED with the membership to make the process of becoming successful much easier.
When e-commerce retailers try to drive sales by introducing affiliate marketing programs, they frequently contract outside program managers to help them recruit the best affiliates and to ferret out the coupon abusers, the “cookie-stuffers,” and the other unsavory characters who drive up their commission costs and erode their bottom lines (the subject of a small-business guide just published by The Times).
On the other hand, “partnership marketing” is a term that encompasses what was previously referred to as affiliate, but opens the scope dramatically to include strategies like influencer marketing as well. This term more accurately defines teams who strategize, plan, negotiate, implement and analyze both traditional affiliate and non-traditional (social influencer) partnerships to reach users who are unfamiliar with your brand to build interest and drive revenue.
Also, it really depends on who you ask. In any business, you will see people that are doing really well and people that aren’t. Their results depend on so many variables, including the business that they are engaged in, the number of years they have been in it, the age when they started, how much their initial investment was, were they mentored, etc.
You’re going to be overwhelmed enough building one website and trying to learn all of the different skills I’ve mentioned in Problem #1 above. Do yourself a favor and pick the most promising, most exciting idea and don’t let yourself get distracted from it for at least six months. If you don’t follow this advice, you are almost guaranteed to fail in this industry, unfortunately. It’s better to build out one site very well than to build out multiple sites sloppily that all result in failure.
Hi Kyle, that is a good post. A few weeks ago i was one click away from joining an affiliate network called GAZ then i looked further into it and it looke to me to be one of the systems that simply sells its own memberships. The coach that i was connected with assured me it was a legit system that sells health products but for the life of me i could not find proof of that online.
The education is often good, but do not fall for the part where they suggest that you promote their program. Not only is this a waste of time, since so MANY affiliates are already doing this, but they do not have the decency to discount the monthly fees even when you market them for your life trying to recruit future affiliates. They get tons of visibility online for FREE and you get nothing to very little back in return.
